Description

The CAM DressupAxisMap CAM DressupAxisMap command remaps one linear axis of a Toolpath to a rotary axis. Every X or Y coordinate of the base Toolpath is converted to an angle on the A, B or C axis by dividing the linear distance by the Radius (angle = degrees(distance / Radius)). This wraps a flat Toolpath around a cylinder, for example to drive a 4th-axis rotary. The feed rate of pure rotary moves is converted to degrees per minute with the same ratio. Its tooltip reads: Remaps one axis to another.

Usage

  1. Select one Operation or Dressup in the Job. If the selection is not exactly one Toolpath object, the command is disabled.

  2. There are several ways to invoke the command:

    • Select the CAM  Path Dressup  Axis Map option from the menu.

    • Select the Dressup Operations dropdown on the Path Modification toolbar.

    • Select the Path Dressup  Axis Map option from the Tree view context menu.

  3. The task panel opens; set Radius, Axis mapping and Reverse. Changes are applied immediately to the Toolpath preview.

  4. Press OK.

Options

The task panel is titled AxisMap Dressup:

  • Radius: The radius of the wrapped axis.

  • Axis mapping: The input mapping axis; coordinates of the first axis are mapped to the second (X→A, Y→A, X→B, Y→B, X→C, Y→C).

  • Reverse: introduced in 26.3 Reverses the rotary axis direction.

Properties

Path
  • Base (Link): The base Toolpath to modify.

  • Axis Map (Enumeration): The input mapping axis; values X→A, Y→A, X→B, Y→B, X→C, Y→C; default Y→A.

  • Radius (Distance): The radius of the wrapped axis; default 45 mm. Changing it also sets the Job’s center of rotation to (0, 0, -Radius).

  • Reverse (Bool): introduced in 26.3 Reverse the rotary axis direction.

Notes

  • introduced in 26.3 G2/G3 arcs in the base Toolpath are split into straight segments, using the Job’s Geometry Tolerance as deflection, before remapping. Earlier versions used a fixed 0.1 mm deflection.

Scripting

The dressup is implemented in the Path.Dressup.Gui.AxisMap module (there is no separate model module):

import FreeCAD
import Path.Dressup.Gui.AxisMap as AxisMap
import PathScripts.PathUtils

# op is an existing Operation of the Job
obj = FreeCAD.ActiveDocument.addObject("Path::FeaturePython", "AxisMapDressup")
AxisMap.ObjectDressup(obj)
obj.Base = op
job = PathScripts.PathUtils.findParentJob(op)
job.Proxy.addOperation(obj, op)
AxisMap.ViewProviderDressup(obj.ViewObject)

obj.AxisMap = "Y->A"
obj.Radius = 25
obj.Reverse = False
FreeCAD.ActiveDocument.recompute()
