Description
The Finish Selecting Loop command extends the current selection to a complete loop of edges or a set of faces, depending on what is selected. It handles vertical and horizontal faces, one or two edges, several objects at once, and whole objects without sub-elements; modifier keys force a specific search mode.
Usage
-
Make a selection in the 3D View:
-
One edge: the horizontal loop of edges containing it is selected.
-
Two edges: the wire of the shape containing both, or the chain of tangent edges between them; Ctrl forces the tangent search.
-
Several edges with Alt: all horizontal wires containing the selected edges. introduced in 26.3
-
Vertical face(s): the faces forming the same wall loop are selected; Shift selects vertical faces with the same center height.
-
Horizontal face: Ctrl selects its inner edges, Ctrl+Alt its outer edges, Shift the horizontal faces at the same height (introduced in 26.3); without modifier the inner edges are tried first, then the wall loop, then the faces at the same height.
-
Any face with Alt: all edges of the face.
-
Object without sub-elements: all edges of the object (introduced in 26.3); Alt selects all faces, Ctrl all vertices.
-
-
Invoke the command: the toolbar button, , or P then L. The modifier keys are read when the command is activated, so they must be held while pressing the button or shortcut.
-
If no other method succeeds, the wire containing the selected edges is selected. introduced in 26.3 Selected vertices are removed from the selection. Several objects can be processed in one call. introduced in 26.3
If no loop can be found a warning ("Closed loop detection failed in model …") is printed in the Report view and the selection is left unchanged.
Notes
-
The command can be used while an Operation’s task panel is open, for example to complete the Base Geometry selection before pressing Add.
-
The command only affects the selection, so once the CAM Workbench has been loaded it can also be used from other workbenches via the shortcut.
-
26.3 and later: the expanded behaviour described above (whole objects, multiple edges, face modifier keys, wire fallback, multiple objects) was introduced in 26.3.
