Description

The CAM ExportTemplate CAM ExportTemplate tool provides a convenient mechanism to save commonly used Job definitions from within an existing Job (tooltip: Exports the CAM job as a template to be used for other jobs). This facilitates the setup of future Jobs, that are largely similar, by allowing Job Template import during the Job creation process. There is no toolbar button and no keyboard shortcut; the command is also available in the Tree View context menu of a Job.

Edit  Preferences  CAM  Job preferences  General  Defaults  Template sets the template preselected in the New Job dialog.

Usage

  1. Select the Job in the Tree View (not needed if the document contains only one Job).

  2. Select the CAM  Export Template option from the menu, or Export Template in the Job’s context menu.

  3. Select elements for inclusion in the Job Template Export configuration dialog (see the options below).

  4. Press OK; a file dialog opens in the CAM asset Templates directory (<asset path>/Templates). Templates stored there, in the CAM file path set in the CAM Preferences, or in the macro directory are found automatically when creating a Job.

  5. Enter a name; the job_ prefix and .json extension are added if missing. When shown in the selection combobox of the New Job dialog, the job_ prefix and the extension are left out.

Options

Description

introduced in 26.3

Optional text, pre-filled from the Job’s Description, stored in the template and shown as a tooltip when choosing the template in the New Job dialog (e.g. "Metric defaults for 3-axis router with 600x900 work area").

Post Processing

If enabled, the legacy Post-Processor name, its arguments and the output file template are stored. The group is disabled when the Job has no legacy Post-Processor. The Fixtures list, Order-by and Split Output settings, the Machine name (introduced in 26.3) and any Post-Processor property overrides are stored with the template independently of this checkbox. The geometry tolerance of the Job is always included.

Stock

If enabled, the stock creation method (box, cylinder or extend bounding box) is stored:

  • Extent: adds the dimensions/allowances.

  • Placement: adds position and rotation (unchecked by default for bounding-box stock).

Without a stock definition the default (bounding box of the Model) is used. A Stock made from an existing solid cannot be exported.

Setup Sheet

Check Operation heights, Operation depths, Tool rapid speeds and Coolant Mode to include those defaults; the list below offers every Operation type that has per-operation defaults set. Modified values are preselected. See CAM SetupSheet.

Tool Controllers

Check the Tool Controllers to include; the group checkbox toggles all. Each stores its label, tool number, feeds (horizontal, vertical, lead-in, lead-out, ramp) and rapids, spindle speed and direction, any expressions, and the complete Tool Bit definition.

Notes

  • If the template’s Post-Processor is not available when a Job is created from it, a warning is written to the Report view and the default Post-Processor is used (introduced in 26.3).

Scripting

import Path.Main.Gui.JobCmd as JobCmd
JobCmd.CommandJobTemplateExport.Execute(job, '/path/job_mytemplate.json')

exports everything; pass a Path.Main.Gui.JobDlg.JobTemplateExport dialog as third argument to filter.
