CAM Fixture
| THIS COMMAND IS OBSOLETE. It was removed from the menus in 1.1 and later; the command still exists but is not exposed in any toolbar or menu. Fixtures (work coordinate systems) are now a property of the Job. |
Description
The Fixture command sets the Work Offset Coordinate Fixture of the machine CNC controller. It can only be invoked from Python (
FreeCADGui.runCommand("CAM_Fixture")).
G54 to G59 and the extended G59.1 to G59.9 select one of the work offsets stored in the CNC controller; G53 (machine coordinates) is not selectable. Which extended offsets exist depends on the controller.
| In the CAM Workbench, Fixture means a work coordinate system selection, not the physical workholding device. |
introduced in 26.3: A Work Plane can name a Fixture of its own, which applies while the Operations of that Work Plane run.
Fixtures on the Job
Since 1.0 the work coordinate systems are selected on the Job:
-
The Fixtures property (default G54) lists the systems to output.
-
OrderOutputBy (Fixture, Tool, Operation) controls grouping.
-
SplitOutput writes one file per group.
In the Job task panel these are on the Output tab under Work Coordinate Systems (checklist G54 to G59.9, Order by, Split Output). The Post-Processor emits the fixture command before the Operations of each group.
When the Job has a Machine, the Post Process dialog’s Overview tab shows a Fixtures checklist (introduced in 26.3); unchecking a fixture omits it from that export without changing the Job.
introduced in 26.3: The Fixture property of a Work Plane names the Fixture that the control has selected while the Operations of that Work Plane run. An empty Fixture property, the default, gives the Job’s own Fixture. When the Fixture property has a value, the Post-Processor selects that Fixture before the Post-Processor positions the Machine for the Work Plane. The Post-Processor selects the Job’s Fixture again after the Operations of the Work Plane.
The Fixture property of a Work Plane does not change the Fixtures property of the Job. The Fixtures property of the Job repeats the program for each listed Fixture, and the Post-Processor selects the Fixture of a Work Plane in each repetition. The Sanity Check warns when a Work Plane names a Fixture that the Fixtures property of the Job also lists.
